I am begging someone to release a patch to openssl that always rounds certiticate expiration times to the nearest wednesday at 1200 of the local machine that generated it

"Ten years from now is on a weekend" is a bug class that should be eliminated

Since the local authority has dug out a tin of rainbow paint in its usual lacklustre tokenism to remind me that it's nearly June again, I need to ask, when are Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath and Envy Months?

long form writing

Now that I think about it, Twitter is the reason I stopped putting two spaces after the period.

Having that very limited canvas has done a lot of damage on my ability to write. I instinctively reach for short, choppy sentences.

No nuance.
Few descriptions.
Just. getting. ideas. out. fast.

The sheer horror of the immediacy of it all has been a severe limitation on my writing. How do I detox from this?

Dopamine is a hell of a drug that seeps into the fibre of your psyche. Product designers want to create addictions to the product so number goes up. A product is a failure unless it gets infinite growth. Even if it's gotten so saturated that there's no hope of ever really growing again.

I don't like that aspect of our society and how it's seeped out into everything else. I don't think I can do anything about that though. I am a voice within a voice in the wind. The only real effect I can have on people are these words and the thoughts that emerge from people thinking about these words.

I also don't know if these words will reach my intended target audience, but maybe my letter in a bottle will go somewhere that helps.

Here's hoping.

The curb cut effect: for example, media descriptions right here on Mastodon help people who use screen readers, but they are also useful for explaining the joke for people who don’t get it, for translations of text, and for copy-pasting what would otherwise be just an image of text.

I have encountered more image descriptions on Mastodon in 24 hours than I have in Twitter in a couple of years. Seriously. I'm not exaggerating.
As a blind person, this means a lot to me. If you read this and you describe your images, thank you so, so, so much on behalf of all of us. If you don't, now you know you'll be helping random Internet strangers make sense of your posts by typing in a few more words than usual.

Did you see the news that all of the #JWST instruments are aligned now?

Check out this comparison of one of the newly released calibration images from the MIRI instrument compared to images taken of the same region of space by the WISE and Spitzer space telescopes! Look at that resolution! So many newly resolved stars and structures! 🤩

I can't wait for all the new discoveries we'll make with JWST! #Science data starts in only a couple months!

Here's a video of some modern HD footage playing back on the predicta.

Been playing the flute for a year this month, and finally got my first 'proper' flute. Many happy. :3

In the end, Instagram is essentially just Twitter but for photos. Except, I'd argue that Twitter itself is a better Twitter for photos than Instagram is.

Whereas I would much rather have flickr, which is more or less a photo gallery but with social features attached.

You know, instead of Instagram-but-ActivityPub, I wish there was a flickr-but-ActivityPub.

*finally joins a(nother) public(-ish) Mastodon instance while still insisting to himself that he's _definitely_ going to be implementing an ActivityPub implementation for himself eventually*
